The Taiwan government is planning to establish a trade and investment company to support industrial development and exports from key national industries, including defence.
The move is part of the new administration's goal to develop Taiwan's national defence industry as a driver of economic growth and job creation. Newly elected president Tsai Ing-wen reiterated this target on 4 June in a visit to a local naval base. "Let defence needs become the driving force of industrial upgrading and transformation," she said.
In support of this drive the new trade and investment company will have a remit to promote industrial investment and overseas sales, government officials said recently in Taipei.
