剛好在K島提到P-51K,針對那個座艙罩的部分搜尋了一下,的確有兩種不同的艙罩─Inglewood(一般常見的型式)和Dallas版本(如下圖)的樣子。



網路上歸納到的四種說法。

1.只有P-51K座艙罩為Dallas版(不過似乎也有一般樣式的圖片)。

2.在Dallas生產的51D/K座艙罩都不同於Inglewood的正版P-51D。

3.Dallas canopy廣泛地出現在後期各型P-51D/K身上。

4.Dallas canopy戰後才出現。(但也有戰時圖片的樣子)

綜合比較後1跟4稍嫌站不住腳(雖然就1來說也可能是戰損後前線自行更換標準版Canopy,畢竟51K常常被改塞D的東西),但2跟3的理論同樣跟實際情形似有偏離(常見的還是inglewood hood)。只能說這是個連P-51專家都頭痛的問題?


另一個關於P-51K的傳說是其大都為Unshrouded exhausts(無遮蓋排氣管?),不是很清楚到底在指什麼??

結果是靠一本模型書得到比較確切的答案

The main difference between the P-51D and P-51K was the propeller used. Initially,the P-51D used the Hamilton Standard cuffed propeller that was 11'2" in diameter. The P-51K was fitted with an Aeroproducts uncuffed propeller of 11'0 in doameter. This hollow-blade prop was to prove troublesome,and up to one in five were rejected due to vibration problems. Later in their service life,P-51Ds were fitted with an uncuffed Hamilton Standard propeller with blunt tips.

There were two types of canopies used on the P-51D and P-51K. One,with a continuous smooth curve, is usually associated with the P-51D,while the other,with a higher profile and a noticeable increase in curvature near the aft end,is normally connected with the P-51K. While initial production may have often divided the two canopies in this manner,the fact is that both types fitted both versions of the Mustang, and each was commonly seen on both variants. Canopies of both types were regularly used as replacements on both the P-51D and P-51K in the field.

遮蓋排氣管的問題則沒提到,好像是比較後期的飛機才會省略掉?

又Aeroproducts螺旋槳似乎是51K不受歡迎的主因,但這個牌子的產品普遍出現在很多飛機上,何以單只有51K出問題呢?

會用上Aeroproducts螺旋槳的原因只是因為H.M螺旋槳供不應求,而前者因廣泛用在同時期的飛機上而供應充足
